Bell Gardens, CA – A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has been hospitalized in unknown condition after suspect rammed the deputy’s patrol vehicle during an attempted traffic stop on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred near Eastern Avenue and Florence Avenue at approximately 4:30 a.m. on June 22, CBS News reported.
A witness said the deputy was trying to pull a white vehicle over when the driver suddenly rammed the deputy’s patrol unit multiple times, according to the news outlet.
A KABC news helicopter reported having spotted a white SUV with bullet holes through the windshield.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) said the suspect was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, KNBC reported.
The suspect’s condition was not immediately released.
The LASD confirmed the injured deputy was also rushed to the hospital in unknown condition, KTLA reported.
No other details have been released.
The intersection where the incident occurred has been shut down while the investigation continues, according to CBS News.
The Long Beach (710) Freeway remains open, but the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has closed the offramps leading to eastbound Florence Avenue.

Florence & Eastern in #BellGardens is closed because of deputy involved shooting. Deputies tell @NBCLA 1 man was shot and taken to the hospital, a deputy was injured.
The extent of their injuries is not clear.
