Maricopa, AZ – A Maricopa police officer was shot early Wednesday morning while responding to a report of vehicle break ins, according to investigators.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Hartman Road and Honeycutt Road, KNXV reported.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving calls about multiple suspects breaking into vehicles in the area.
When officers arrived at the scene, one of the suspects shot an officer in the leg, KNXV reported.
The officer was severely wounded and was listed in critical condition at a local hospital, according to police.
One of the alleged suspects was also shot during an exchange of gunfire and has been hospitalized in critical condition, KNXV reported.
Police took two other suspects into custody.
No further information has been released, including the identities of the wounded hero and the suspect who was shot.
