Bedford, NY – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating a bomb left in the mailbox of controversial billionaire George Soros, who is believed to have funded many of the violent protests since President Donald Trump was elected.

Bedford police told NPR in a statement that the investigation began after an employee of the house found a package in the mailbox at about 3:45 p.m. on Monday.

“An employee of the residence opened the package, revealing what appeared to be an explosive device,” the Bedford Police Department wrote in a statement to The New York Times. “The employee placed the package in a wooded area and called the Bedford police.”

State and federal officials, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), arrived at Soros’ home in the community of Katonah to investigate.

An “extensive investigation” involving the Bedford Police Department, the Westchester County Police Department, the ATF, and the FBI, began immediately.

The explosive device did not explode on its own, so officials said bomb squad technicians “proactively detonated it,” according to The New York Times.

The Bedford Police Department told NPR that control of the investigation has been turned over to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Soros was not in residence when the bomb was found in his mailbox.

The tony neighborhood where the bomb was found is home to such celebrities as Martha Stewart, Glenn Close, and Ralph Lauren, The New York Times reported.

Soros is a well-known Democratic donor who funds nonprofits accused of paying protesters to demonstrate and wreak havoc in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election.

The billionaire has taken an interest in progressive criminal justice policies, and has funded the campaigns of anti-police prosecutors who have platforms that focus on helping criminals.

His support helped get Philadelphia prosecutor Larry Krasner elected.

Krasner, is known for calling police and prosecutors liars, and has sued law enforcement and government agencies over 75 times, has promised to end “mass incarceration” by starving the criminal justice system.

Soros, who was born and raised in Hungary during the Nazi occupation, became a major political donor in the United States during George W. Bush’s second campaign, according to The New York Times.

He spent $24 million backing John Kerry’s unsuccessful presidential bid, and was an early Barack Obama’s campaign contributor.

Soros, who contributed more than $25 million to Hillary Clinton and other Democrats in 2016, is a strong proponent of open borders.

He founded the pro-immigration Open Society Foundation in 1993, and has been widely criticized for influencing and interfering in politics in the United States and parts of Europe.

His homeland of Hungary passed a “Stop Soros” law in 2018 that banned civil society groups from helping migrants, NPR reported.

Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán ran a billboard campaign against migration and foreign influence in 2017 that featured a picture of Soros, Fortune reported.
