Los Angeles, CA – A 32-year-old female Los Angeles teacher has been charged with 18 felony counts for allegedly sexually assaulting one of her 15-year-old male biology students.
Gina Murry has been charged with four counts of committing a lewd act on a child, four counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, and four counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, KNBC reported.
If convicted, she faces up to 17 years in prison.
According to prosecutors, Murry sexually assaulted the 15-year-old boy for a two-month period beginning in May.
Several students, who did not want to be named, told KTTV that the victim had “bragged” about his relationship with Murry, and that he showed other students naked photos of her.
Word of the alleged sexual relationship soon reached other teachers at the school, the students said.
The Esteban E. Torres High School East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy biology teacher was arrested on Sep. 5, and posted $250,000 bail on the same day, according to KNBC.
The Los Angeles Unified School District said that parents were notified about Murry’s arrest, and that she has been “reassigned from the school,” KNBC reported.
“The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority,” district officials said in a statement to KNBC. “These allegations are disturbing and undermine our continuing efforts to provide a secure learning environment for all of our students.”
No further details about the nature of her reassignment or her employment history were immediately available.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau is leading the ongoing investigation, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Murry’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, KTLA reported.
