Detroit, MI – Two armed robbers got more than they expected when their would-be victim wrestled a gun away and shot them late Monday night.

The two robbers had demanded cash from the victim in the Nov. 12 robbery, according to WXYZ.

Police said there is a third person involved who was a woman they think may have planned the attempted robbery.

Police are not yet releasing the names of any of the people involved, according to WXYZ.

Detroit Police Commander Elaine Bryant said police believe the female suspect had something to do with setting up the botched armed robbery.

The woman was seen at a gas station and put gas in a vehicle that was used in the robbery.

The gas station was part of the “Project Green Light” program that city has implemented where gas stations have surveillance cameras installed.

After citizens called and told police who the woman was, the female suspect called police and came in for an interview Nov. 14, according to police.

Commander Bryant said the woman was waiting in an interview room with police and walked out of the room and then walked out the front door.

Police were able to find her after a search that lasted through the night and she was found and is back in custody.

“For these individuals who may be thinking about robbing somebody, it’s always possible you end up getting harmed yourself in that robbery, so you should think twice,” said Detroit Police Department Captain Michael McGinnis.
