Lansing, MI – Five people were shot and two remain in critical condition after an incident in the parking lot of a Lansing shopping center early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at the Logan Square Shopping Center located in the 1300-block of West Holmes Road at approximately 1 a.m. on July 30, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Lansing police responded to the scene after receiving a report of shots fired in the area.

They arrived to find a large group of people in the shopping plaza parking lot, including multiple victims who were suffering from gunshot wounds, the Lansing State Journal reported.

The Lansing Fire Department responded to the scene and police requested assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies to assist them with the melee.

Police said a total of five people were shot during the incident, according to CNN.

They ranged in age from 16 to 26.

Two of the victims remained in critical condition on Sunday morning, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Details regarding the conditions and identities of the five victims were not released, but they were all still alive on Sunday afternoon, according to the paper.

Lansing police said they recovered multiple firearms at the scene and detained “several persons of interest,” the Lansing State Journal reported.

It is unclear if anyone was arrested.

Lansing Police Department (LPD) Sergeant Jason Spoelma said police were no longer detaining anyone as of Sunday afternoon, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Investigators did not elaborate on what led up to the shooting.

“This is an active investigation and Lansing police detectives and crime scene investigators are at the scene working to determine the events which led up to the shootings,” the LPD said.
