Schoharie, NY – At least 20 people are dead after a stretch limo crashed into another car in upstate New York.
The crash happened at around 2 p.m. Saturday when a limo carrying a wedding party crashed in front of the Apple Barrel Country Store & Cafe.
18 people inside of the limo and two people outside of the limo were killed in the crash, according to Fox News.
The National Traffic Safety Board announced that they are “launching go-team today to limo crash near Albany, NY.”
“What we can tell you at this point is that it is a two vehicle, multi fatalities as a result of this crash. The investigation is very preliminary it’s in its infancy stages,” New York State Police Captain Richard O’Brien told reporters, according to WTEN.
“I saw a lot of people here at the Apple Barrel out in the parking lot. Then I heard screaming. Then I saw this large van, a very unusual looking vehicle out here in Scoharie in the bushes and really wrecked, hit a tree,” a witness told WTEN. “The first responders broke some windows to try to get people out. I believe the jaws of life were here on the side of one of the fire trucks,”
Multiple survivors were reportedly airlifted to a nearby hospital, but their conditions have not been released.
The identity of those killed have not been officially released as authorities work to notify family members.
Daily Mail reports that family members have identified two of the victims as Erin and Shane McGowan. They were identified as guests in the wedding and had just gotten married in June.
