Boynton Beach, FL – A teenage boy in south Florida has been arrested for stealing an AR-15 and tactical gear out of an unmarked police vehicle.
Clay Moses was arrested late Saturday by the Boynton Beach police for the theft from the Palm Beach sheriff deputy’s cruiser after he showed off the stolen weapons on Instagram Live, the Miami Herald reported.
Officials said that Moses waved the customized police rifle in the air as he danced and rapped to music for the camera during the livestream on the popular social media app, according to the Miami Herald.
The theft of the police equipment occurred on Aug. 14 when the Palm Beach sheriff’s deputy left his unmarked police vehicle in a shopping plaza parking lot for a few hours, police said.
In addition to the AR-15 rifle, Moses also stole two loaded magazines for the weapon, a gas mask, a ballistic helmet, and a Taser, the Miami Herald reported.
The sheriff’s deputy discovered the items were missing when he returned to his police vehicle, and checked the footage from the surveillance cameras on the parking lot. In the surveillance videos, police saw Moses leaving the parking lot in a vehicle authorities later located the vehicle he’d been in parked in the area nearby.
However, police told the Miami Herald that it was really the social media post by Moses that gave investigators what they needed to get a search warrant for the teenager’s home.
When detectives searched Moses’ bedroom, they found the gun underneath his mattress, the Miami Herald reported.
The Miami Herald reported that Moses was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center after the weapons and tactical gear were recovered.
He was facing charges of grand theft and burglary while armed with a firearm, according to the Miami Herald.
