Stillwater, MN – Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerome “Jerry” Lannon died unexpectedly on Nov. 26.

“Our hearts are heavy after losing one of our own yesterday,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. “Jerry had a smile for all and called everyone ‘buddy’ or ‘mister.’ We will dearly miss him and thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

Deputy Lannon, 58, served as a law enforcement officer in Iowa for 11 years before he joined the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 20, 1999, according to his obituary.

Throughout the course of the decades that followed, he served as a school resource officer, court security officer, detective, SWAT operator, and range instructor.

“He was proud to serve our communities and work alongside such loving and honorable men and women,” his obituary read.

“Jerry was a friend to all. He led with kindness and hoped to bring a smile or laugh to those around him each day,” the obituary continued. “If you were blessed to have Jerry call you ‘Buddy,’ ‘Mister,’ ‘Brother,’ or ‘Fine American,’ you know you were loved by him.”

Deputy Lannon leaves behind his wife, Cindy, as well as his daughters, Maggie, Ali, and Monica.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, and many friends and extended family members.

Deputy Lannon was laid to rest on Nov. 30.
