Fresno County, CA – Sanger Police Department (SPD) Officer Manvir “Manny” Dhanoa died in a single-vehicle crash while off duty on June 13.

The incident occurred on Millerton Road east of Sky Harbor Road at approximately 5:30 a.m., GV Wire reported.

The 26-year-old off-duty officer was traveling eastbound in a 2022 Tela when he inexplicably veered right and hit a culvert in the south shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Tesla flipped at least once and Officer Dhanoa was ejected from the car, GV Wire reported.

“Despite medical attention provided at the scene, he tragically succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a profound void within our department and the community he served,” the SPD said in a press release on June 13.

The CHP said a 23-year-old female passenger was extracted from the Tesla by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, GV Wire reported.

Officer Dhanoa joined the SPD on March 27, according to his department.

“His enthusiasm for serving his community was evident from the moment he joined the force,” the SPD said. “He possessed a deep commitment to upholding the law and ensuring public safety, traits that made him a valued member of our department.”

SPD Chief Greg Garner told KFSN the young officer was excited about his new role as a public servant.

“Each time I had a conversation with him, his enthusiasm was infectious,” Chief Garner said. “He was just what you would expect from a brand-new police officer who’s anxious to be a part of this profession.”

The chief said Officer Dhanoa was a “fantastic” new officer, KFSN reported.

“He was doing a fantastic job. Really enthusiastic, he had really taken to the community even though he wasn’t from here and it’s just a tremendous, tragic loss for everyone at this station who knew Manny,” he added.

The SPD said it is thankful for the first responders, paramedics, and medical professionals who worked “valiantly” in their attempts to save Officer Dhanoa.

“The Sanger Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Officer Dhanoa’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this immensely difficult time,” the police department said. “We stand with them in their pain and sorrow, offering our unwavering support and assistance as they navigate this tragic loss. Officer Dhanoa’s memory and his dedication to protecting and serving our community will forever be cherished.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Sanger Police Department Officer Manvir “Manny” Dhanoa, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.
