Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) Officer Lynneice Hill died in the line of duty on July 14 after suffering a medical emergency while at work.
According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, witnesses found the 44-year-old officer unresponsive in her patrol car in the 1800-block of South Columbus Boulevard at approximately 9 p.m., WPVI reported.
Officer Hill was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Commissioner Outlaw said.
The exact nature of the veteran officer’s fatal medical emergency was not immediately released.
Officer Hill served the PPD for 24 years, WPVI reported.
She was working as a school resource officer in the PPD’s 3rd District at the time of her death.
Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President John McNesby said the longtime officer would be remembered for her dedicated service to the city and its residents.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we mourn the sudden passing of dedicated police officer, Lynneice Hill. Our friend and colleague served this city for 24 years with humility, distinction, and integrity,” McNesby said. “We pray for Officer Hill’s family, friends, and colleagues with the Philadelphia police department. The FOP will never forget her dedication and contributions to the police department and her community.”
Officer Hill leaves behind her husband, fellow PPD Officer Dennis Smith, as well as her three children, WPVI reported.
“She molded me into the man I am and, also, a better police officer,” Officer Smith told WTXF. “Her motivation and her kind heart – you have to pick up on it. You have no other choice.”
“She was a superstar,” he said. “She was a super woman with an incredible heart and incredible gift and her favorite two things were church and family.”
The couple would have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary next week, CBS News reported.
