Philadelphia, PA – A Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) officer and her boyfriend were found dead inside the officer’s Port Richmond home on Feb. 26, police said.

Investigators said that the bodies of Officer Michelle Moran, 36, and her boyfriend, Jay Trask, 43, were found at approximately 12 p.m., after Officer Moran failed to arrive to work, WPVI reported.

According to WCAU, her captain became concerned when she couldn’t be reached, and a family member assisted the captain to enter Officer Moran’s home.

The bodies showed no obvious signs of trauma, and investigators did not discover any evidence of forced entry.

Police said that Trask was discovered face-down on the kitchen floor, and that Officer Moran was located sitting on a sofa in the living room area, WPVI reported.

“It’s just a sad day for all of us,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross told WCAU. “We send our prayers and our thoughts out to her family.”

Autopsies were completed on Feb. 27, but the results were inconclusive. Toxicology results are pending.

According to Metro, the medical examiner’s investigation into the suspicious deaths was expected to take approximately three months.

Officer Moran was a 14-year veteran of the PPD, and was assigned to the 1st District at the time of her death, WTXF reported.

“It’s shocking. It’s a big surprise, just awful,” her neighbor, Richard Yuill, told WPVI. “It’s terrible to hear of anyone going, but she was just a really nice person.”

“Officer Michelle Moran was a wonderful Victim Assistance Officer for the 1st District,” Victim Services SouthPhiladelphia posted to Facebook on Mar. 2. “She cared deeply about the people she worked with. We will miss her enthusiasm and commitment. Thank you for your service.”

Officer Moran is survived by her parents, sister, grandmothers, and numerous other relatives, according to her obituary.

She was laid to rest on Mar. 2.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Philadelphia Police Officer Michelle Moran, both blood and blue. Godspeed, we will take the watch from here. Thank you for your service.
