Oconee County, SC – Oconee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) K9 Argo died on May 16 after recently being diagnosed with a terminal illness, according to his department.

The OCSO confirmed the beloved K9’s death in a Facebook post later that day.

“It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of one of our deputy K-9s,” the sheriff’s office said. “K-9 Argo served with the Sheriff’s Office for the past seven years.”

He served alongside his human partner, OCSO First Sergeant Alan Sayre.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with First Sergeant Sayre and his family during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said. “Rest In Peace Deputy Argo, we have the watch from here.”

In addition to his crime-fighting duties, K9 Argo also loved interacting with community members and participating in educational demonstrations.

He was the star of the show at Tamassee-Salem Elementary School in April.

The sheriff’s office shared photos to Facebook showing the duo in action that day.

We [love] Career Days!” the OCSO’s April 25 post read. “Thank you to Tamassee-Salem Elementary School for having us last Friday! K9 Argo had fun showing off his K9 training and 1st Sergeant Sayre had fun showing off one of our drones!”

Well over 100 people offered their condolences to the sheriff’s office and Sgt. Sayre in response to the agency’s announcement of K9 Argo’s passing.

“Grateful for K9 Argo’s brave service! Praying for all who loved and cared for him, especially First Sergeant Sayre,” one message read.

“So sorry. We have such respect for these beautiful babies,” another person wrote. “Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.”

“We met Argo when he came to our school some years back and loved him,” a third note read. “I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for your service and a job well done, Argo. Run free!”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Sgt. Sayre in the loss of K9 Argo.
