Ingleside, TX – Nueces County Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin White died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Aug. 19, according to his department.

“I was awakened this morning…with a phone call informing me one of my deputies, Deputy Dustin White, had just been killed in a tragic motorcycle crash in Ingleside,” Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin wrote in a Facebook post.

“I would ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers,” she added.

Ingleside police said that the crash occurred sometime after midnight, KRIS-TV reported.

Deputy White, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the intersection of Main Street and Kiewit Road, according to the Caller Times.

“The investigation is still ongoing, but at this time it appears to be a single vehicle collision,” Sheriff Kaelin said in his post.

Deputy White, a six-year veteran of the force, worked as a corrections officer at the Nueces County Jail for three years before he served an additional three years as a deputy, the sheriff told the Caller Times.

He described Deputy White as a dedicated, dependable, conscientious, and hard-working officer.

“He was sent for training and got a dog, and he was our K9 handler in addition to [being on] patrol,” he said. “Dustin was absolutely, without reservation, one of the better deputies that we had working for us.”

“All those attributes you look for in an employee, this young man had them,” Sheriff Kaelin added. “He was very well liked by his peers — just an all-around good guy.”

Deputy White leaves behind his wife, Paige, and their two daughters, according to her Facebook page.

“I am at a loss for words,” Paige wrote in a Facebook post on the day of her husband’s tragic death. “I’m devastated and so [are] the girls…This is a nightmare and I just want to wake up and it all be a bad dream.”

“I just hope he knew how much I love him,” she wrote the following day. “I’m forever grateful for the life we had together.”

A fundraising account established to assist Deputy White’s family in their wake of their loss had raised over $7,500 as of Thursday afternoon.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
