Frederick, MD – Montgomery County Police Sergeant Jonathan Green died on July 10, following a seven-month battle with medical complications stemming from a ruptured aortic valve.

Sgt. Green, 43, suffered the initial medical emergency on Dec. 23, 2017, his family said on a fundraising page.

He was transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center by air ambulance, underwent multiple surgeries, and battled numerous bouts of pneumonia and infections in the months that followed, but never regained consciousness, his family said.

Sgt. Green passed away at 5:39 p.m. on July 10, his colleague, Rose Borisow said in a Facebook post.

“Sgt. Green joined the Department in 2001, and spent much of his career serving the 5th District,” Montgomery County Police Lieutenant Amy Duam said in a press release. “He dedicated himself to protecting and servicing all who lived and worked in the up-county communities.”

According to his obituary, Sgt. Green was a self-taught guitarist, accomplished martial artist, and “had a passion for foreign travel.”

“He also enjoyed a great bourbon and was a fascinating storyteller of his life’s adventures,” his obituary read. “He was indeed a great man who shared his knowledge, talents, and love with all. Love never dies, Heroes live forever.”

Sgt. Green leaves behind his wife of nearly 16 years, Melanie, their children, Ainsley and Dorian, as well as his parents, brother, and many friends and extended family members.

He was laid to rest on Tuesday.

A fundraising page initially intended to help cover Sgt. Green’s medical costs and his family’s travel to visit him has since been converted into a college fund for his children.
