Mobile County, AL – Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Reserve Deputy Leo McCall died in a rollover crash while on his way to work on July 2.

The 64-year-old deputy was off-duty at the time of the deadly collision, which Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) investigators said occurred on Theodore Dawes Road at approximately 3:55 a.m., WEAR reported.

Deputy McCall’s 2017 Honda Ridgeline left the roadway for an unknown reason and hit a ditch and an embankment, causing it to overturn, according to The Birmingham News.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ALEA investigation into the crash remained ongoing, WEAR reported.

Deputy McCall served the MCSO for 41 years.

“Leo was a dedicated servant to our Country as well as to The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office,” Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch told WEAR. “I have known Leo for over 20 years. He will be greatly missed.”

In addition to his service to his community, Deputy McCall was also a military veteran, The Birmingham News reported.

He was a member of the Alabama Army National Guard’s 1165th Military Police Unit and served during both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dozens of people offered their condolences to Deputy McCall’s family on his memorial website.

“Leo was my brother in arms and a good friend, we were roommates in Iraq, as well as a long time friend in the guard, he is sadly missed,” one message read. “Rest in peace my friend.”

“My sincere condolences to the family,” another person wrote. “Leo was an awesome person, and I was so privileged to know him.”

Deputy McCall will be laid to rest on July 15, according to his obituary.
