Henderson, NV- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Rodolfo “Roli” Gil died of a massive heart attack on May 4.
Officer Gil, 47, had been with the department for 19 years, according to OfficerDown.us.
He was born in Havana, Cuba, and went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard, according to his obituary.
Officer Gil leaves behind his wife, Lorena, as well as his daughters, 17-year-old Victoria, and 15-year-old Sophia. He is also survived by his parents, Carmen and Gume, and his brother, Christian.
Many people left messages of condolence in the wake of Officer Gil’s unexpected death.
“It was an honor knowing and working with you,” Hector Navarro wrote on the officer’s memorial page. “My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends in this difficult time. RIP, Pal!”
“Always a friendly face and a welcoming smile,” W. Butler said in a message. “I will miss that, Brother.”
“Oh, if we could only share one more triple expresso (with six sugars) and a venti ice water,” Joe Esposito lamented. “I miss my friend… May God hold you close.”
“I’m so grateful to have been your friend and for the moments we shared. My family and I will miss you dearly,” childhood friend Albert Porto wrote.
Officer Gil was laid to rest on Thursday, during a memorial service commemorated by the Las Vegas Metro PD Honor Guard.
“Today we are honoring and saying goodbye to Officer Rodolfo Gil,” the Honor Guard said in a tweet. “Thank you for your service sir and R.I.P.”
