Joplin, MO – Joplin Police Officer David Brewer and his wife Stacey Brewer were both killed in a motorcycle crash in Cherokee County, Kansas on Friday.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves said that 42-year-old Officer Brewer and his 41-year-old wife were going westbound on Highway 160 at N.W. 100th Road at about 10 a.m. on July 20 when a car pulled out onto the highway in front of them, leading to the crash, Four States Homepage reported.

Sheriff Groves said that both Officer Brewer and his wife were wearing helmets as they rode their Harley Davidson motorcycle, but both died from injuries sustained during the wreck, the Joplin Globe reported.

Cheyenne Hartman, 20, the driver of the car that struck the Brewer’s motorcycle, was not injured in the wreck, according to the Joplin Globe.

Officer Brewer served on the Joplin police force for 11 years, and was currently assigned to the traffic division.

The Joplin Police Department posted a series of pictures of Officer Brewer and Stacey Brewer, along with their sad announcement on the department’s official Facebook page.

“Today we are mourning the loss of one of our own. Officer David Brewer and his wife Stacey were both killed in a motorcycle crash in Cherokee County, Kansas today. Officer Brewer was off duty at the time. Officer Brewer has been with our department for 11 years and was a traffic officer who often operated a department motorcycle. Officer Brewer had many other responsibilities (sic) and accomplishments, but today we mourn the loss of a great man and his wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected and our own officers and employees as we grieve this unexpected tragedy,” the post read.
