Plainfield, IN – Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Timothy J. Guyer suffered a fatal heart attack after a mandatory training session at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy last week.
Deputy Guyer was sworn in to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 1, 2022, WXIN reported.
The 49-year-old sheriff’s deputy was attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as a member of its 230th Session.
Law enforcement officers have a year to complete their training after being sworn in, according to WXIN.
Deputy Guyer was found unconscious in his dorm room at about 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, the Officer Down Memorial Page reported.
He had just completed mandatory physical training at the academy located in the 5400-block of Sugar Grove Road in Plainfield.
Department officials said that Deputy Guyer had returned to his room to clean up after the workout and never appeared at breakfast, the Officer Down Memorial Page reported.
He was found unresponsive in his room a short time later.
Emergency measures were taken immediately but Deputy Guyer could not be revived, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Deputy Guyer, who had served the sheriff’s department for eight months, is survived by his wife and four children.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb directed flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of the fallen hero, WXIN reported.
A funeral was held on Tuesday, WXIN reported.
Officials said that Deputy Guyer’s fatal heart attack during training was considered an official line-of-duty death.
