Hero Down: Jersey City PD Detective Amy Hulings Found Dead At Home

Jersey City, NJ – Jersey City Police Detective Amy Hulings was found dead in her apartment on Sunday, a police union spokesman said.

Investigators said that Det. Hulings’ death was not considered suspicious, but provided no other details, NJ.com reported.

We all knew Detective Amy Hulings in different ways and have our own special memories,” Jersey City Police Detective’s Benevolent Association president Detective Ed Dolan said in a Facebook post on Monday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with [the] Hulings family.”

Det. Hulings joined the Jersey City Police Department in 1999, and was named “Irish Police Officer of the Year” in 2012, the Jersey City Patch reported.

She came from a family who devoted their lives to public service.

Her father, Jersey City Fire Department Captain Michael Hulings, passed away in 2001, while her mother, Maureen, currently serves on the city’s Municipal Utilities Authority board of commissioners, NJ.com reported.

Det. Hulings’ brother, who was not named, is a Jersey City PD lieutenant.

Many offered their heartfelt condolences on social media as news of the veteran detective’s passing spread.

“I’m [shocked] to see this,” Kipster Shy wrote. “Amy and I were bunk mates in the Academy at NJ State Police Sea Girt NJ! We helped each other when needed. My sincere condolences to Amy’s family and to her family “in blue” Jersey City PD! May she Rest In Peace!”

“My heart goes out to the Hulings family,” Donald Windrem posted. “ I’m sure Amy is in Mike’s arms and at peace.”

“It’s with heavy hearts that we are sending our condolences to our brothers and sisters at The Jersey City Police Department for the loss of Detective Amy Hulings,” The North Bergen Police Department said in a Facebook post. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow brothers , sisters, and her family during this difficult and trying time.”

“RIP Sister, we will take it from here and have the watch,” the department’s post concluded.

Memorial services have not yet been announced.
