Singapore – Homeland Security Investigation Special Agent Timothy Ensley died in the line of duty on June 24, after he contracted Dengue fever during a temporary duty assignment in Indonesia.

Special Agent Ensley had been with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s HSI for nine years when he fell ill in mid-May, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

He was medically evacuated from Indonesia to Singapore, where he ultimately succumbed to the illness.

Special Agent Ensley was assigned to the agency’s Seattle Field Office, and worked in the Child Exploitation Investigation Unit at the time of his death.

He leaves behind his wife, four children, and his mother.

“You tackled some of the toughest work any of us could ever hope to avoid,” Harvard University Police Officer Jim Leahy wrote on Special Agent Ensley’s memorial page. “For that, I have nothing but admiration for you and my heart goes out to all the family and friends that you have left behind and they are in my prayers.”

“A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived!” retired Georges Mills Police Chief Steven Marshall wrote on the page. “A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family, and the immigration and Customs Enforcement. Our country is a little less safe without you.”
