Norman, OK – Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputy Chase Stinson died in an off-duty motorcycle crash in the early-morning hours of July 10.

The 26-year-old deputy was riding with his brothers and was on his way home when he collided with a curve on the ramp off Lindsay Street onto Interstate 35, The Express-Star reported.

Deputy Stinson crashed as a result of the impact, leaving him with fatal injuries.

Grady County Sheriff Gary Boggess confirmed the young deputy’s death in a press release the following day.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of Deputy Chase Stinson,” Sheriff Boggess wrote. “Deputy Stinson was killed in a single vehicle accident last night on his motorcycle. This is a tragic accident that took Deputy Stinson from his family and the Grady County Sheriff’s Office family.”

Deputy Stinson participated in a police explorer’s program during his junior year of high school, which inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement, according to his obituary.

He later joined the Blanchard Police Department (BPD), where he served for five years prior to joining the GCSO as a school resource officer three years ago.

“This position fulfilled Chase’s love for law enforcement as well as a desire to work with students,” his obituary read.

Deputy Stinson was also a firearms instructor.

He leaves behind his wife of three years, Maria, and his daughter, Hadlee.

Deputy Stinson is also survived by his parents, brother, in-laws, grandmothers, nephew, cousins, uncles, aunts, and many friends, coworkers, and extended family members.

“We are all heartbroken of the loss of Chase,” Sheriff Boggess said. “Please keep Deputy Stinson’s family and ours in your prayers.”

A fundraising campaign established to help the young deputy’s family in the wake of his death has raised more than $10,000 so far.

Deputy Stinson was laid to rest on July 13.
