Grand Blanc, MI – Genesee County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputy Anthony “Tony” Fedewa died on June 25 after a brief illness.

The 56-year-old deputy succumbed to his medical condition at Ascension Genesys Hospital, according to his obituary.

His exact cause of death was not immediately released.

The GCSO confirmed Deputy Fedewa’s passing in a press release later that day.

“Sheriff Christopher R. Swanson and the Office of Genesee County Sheriff are saddened to share the sudden loss of Deputy Sheriff Anthony Fedewa,” the department said.

The U.S. Army veteran “led a life of service” and was a “leader” in the GCSO’s Corrections Division at the time of his death, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was stationed both Fort Bragg and in Panama during the Panamanian Invasion and was a member of VFW Post #822, according to his obituary.

Deputy Fedewa was also a member of the GCSO’s Honor Guard.

He leaves behind his wife, Sherry, as well as his daughters, Autumn and Danielle, according to his obituary.

Deputy Fedewa is also survived by his mother, sister, brother, in-laws, aunt, nephews, nieces and his “fur babies,” his family said.

“Our hearts are with the Fedewa family and his Corrections family in this time of great loss,” the GCSO’s post read.

Dozens of people offered their condolences to the GCSO and Deputy Fedewa’s family in response to the department’s announcement.

“He will be missed,” one message read. “Prayers for his entire family and all the staff at the jail.”

“Oh no! I loved him, such a great man and friend!” another person wrote. “He will be missed!”

Deputy Fedewa will be laid to rest on July 6.
