Fort Worth, TX – Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) Officer Robert Guerrero died unexpectedly on June 21 after suffering a medical emergency.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes confirmed the 57-year-old officer’s death in a Facebook post the following afternoon.

“I am incredibly saddened to bring you the news that Officer Robert Guerrero #3072 passed away yesterday evening after suffering a sudden medical event while off-duty,” Chief Noakes wrote. “Events like this remind us of the deep bonds that bind us together as brothers and sisters in blue.”

His exact cause of death was not immediately released.

“Robert was an excellent officer and his service and dedication to this department will never be forgotten, but even more than this, he was a beloved son, father, and friend to so many,” Chief Noakes said. “I ask that you please support each other through this hard time and please keep Robert’s family in your prayers.”

Officer Guerrero worked as a master carpenter prior to graduating from the law enforcement academy in 1998, according to his obituary.

“He was a dedicated and beloved police officer with Fort Worth Police Department until his untimely passing,” the tribute read.

The Fort Worth Police Officers Association (FWPOA) said in a Facebook post that Officer Guerrero was a remarkable person “whose dedication to service touched countless lives in Fort Worth.”

“Officer Guerrero was not only a fearless protector of our community but also a beacon of compassion and kindness,” the FWPOA said. “He consistently went above and beyond to make a positive impact in the community he served. His commitment to justice and unwavering integrity served as an inspiration to his fellow officers and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Officer Guerrero leaves behind his daughter, Raquel, and his son, Matthew, as well as his brother, Daniel.

“He is also survived by his brothers and sisters of the Fort Worth Police department, and a host of friends,” his obituary read.

Officer Guerrero will be laid to rest on June 29.
