Rancho Cordova, CA – Sacramento County Deputy Mark Stasyuk was killed in a gunfight which also left another deputy, a bystander, and the suspect shot.
The incident happened after the deputies responded to a call for shots fired at the Pep Boys near Folsom Boulevard and McGregor Drive at around 1:44 p.m. on Sept. 17, according to KCRA.
Deputy Mark Stasyuk, 27, and 28-year-old Deputy Julie Robertson arrived and the suspect engaged them in a gunfight.
Deputy Stasyuk was fatally shot by the suspect and Deputy Robertson was shot in the arm. Deputy Robertson was expected to recover from her injuries.
A bystander was also hit in the gunfight, and a second citizen was injured but was not shot. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The suspect was also shot and was taken into custody. He has been hospitalized for his gunshot wounds.
Deputy Stasyuk was a 4-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. He had just gotten married six months before he was murdered.
