Dallas, TX – Dallas Police Senior Corporal Tyrone Andrews died on July 14 after a battle with cancer.

Cpl. Andrews was a 27-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department.

He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1987, and moved to Dallas to begin his career in law enforcement, according to his obituary.

Cpl. Andrews worked as a jailer in Dallas County before he was hired by the Dallas PD.

He became a well-respected Field Training Officer for his department, and also served as a popular also School Resource Officer in the Richardson Independent School District.

Cpl. Andrews was very involved with the youth in the community through the police department and also in his personal life. He was a Cub Scout leader for an inner-city troop, and served as a positive male role model for the youth in the neighborhood, according to his obituary.

He leaves behind five brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. His family said that he took on the leadership role after his parents’ died, and became the center of family gatherings.

Cpl. Andrews actively supported his nieces’ and nephews’ athletic and musical endeavors, as well as all their other extracurricular interests and activities. It was tradition for him to take the kids to amusement parks and state fairs.

He was well known for having a phenomenal memory, a great sense of humor, and passionate love of music.

Cpl. Andrews grew up in Marion, Louisiana, where he worked summers for his father in the logging industry, according to his obituary. He was baptized into the Marion Baptist Church and remained an active members as long as he lived in that area.
