Hamilton, OH – Butler County Corrections Sergeant Carol Seals died early Tuesday morning, due to injuries she received during a motorcycle crash on May 12, Sheriff Richard Jones said.

“Carol Seals was a great employee,” Sheriff Jones told WXIX. “I’ve known her for over 20 years. She is going to be missed and my condolences go out to her family, her friends and her co-workers. We are all praying for her family and their healing process.”

Sgt. Seals, 54, was critically injured on May 12, while she was attending her grandson’s fourth birthday party in Jefferson, her daughter, Cassianne Pfeiffer said.

Sgt. Seals had just gotten a new 3-wheel Can-Am motorcycle, and was sitting on the bike in the driveway, Pfeiffer explained.

“She wasn’t trying to ride it anywhere,” her daughter said. “She was learning how it works. She went out and bought a jacket and a helmet for the bike but never had a chance to use them.”

As she sat on the bike, Sgt. Seals mistakenly hit the throttle, and sent the motorcycle rocketing out of the driveway, Pfeiffer recounted.

The bike barreled across the street, then slammed into a cement block barn, ejecting the sergeant, WXIX reported.

“She couldn’t stop,” her daughter said. “She didn’t know how.”

Sgt. Seals wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, because she never intended to move the bike at all, Pfeiffer explained.

“It was absolutely no one’s fault. It was a total accident – the most freak accident that could have ever happened to our family,” she said.

Sgt. Seals was transported to Kettering Medical Center by air ambulance. She remained in critical condition until her death.

“Sgt. Seals was one of my hardest working employees who is loved by everyone she supervised and worked side-by-side with,” Sheriff Jones said in a statement, according to the Journal-News. “Sgt. Seals was passionate about her career in law enforcement and corrections.”

She joined the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in 2005, was promoted to the rank of sergeant by 2007, the sheriff said.

Sgt. Seals had also previously served as an officer with the Fairfield Police Department.

“If there is one thing I’m sure of, it’s that whomever I hired and was trained by Sgt. Seals was going to excel in their own career,” Sheriff Jones noted. “Her values are instilled in everyone that has been lucky enough to have her as their supervisor, instructor, co-worker, and friend.”

In addition to her daughter and grandson, Sgt. Seals leaves behind her husband, Anthony, and her stepdaughter, Jessica Begoon, WXIX reported.

“She was amazing,” Pfeiffer said of her mother. “She will be missed by hundreds and hundreds of people.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Butler County Corrections Sergeant Carol Seals, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
