Coppell, TX – Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Senior Special Agent Paul “Scott” Ragsdale died in the line of duty on May 24, when he went into cardiac arrest during a training session, the agency said.
Agent Ragsdale, 41, was participating in a control and arrest techniques training when the heart attack occurred, KXAS reported.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the ATF said in a press release.
“The ATF family wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of support as we continue to mourn the passing of Senior Special Agent Scott Ragsdale,” an ATF headquarters Twitter post read.
Agent Ragsdale, a 16-year veteran of the agency, was a division senior operations officer and was assigned to the Dallas Field Division, according to the ATF press release.
“If you knew Scott, you knew laughter, you knew how much he loved his family, you knew a great guy,” ATF Dallas Division Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Boshek said, according to KXAS. “Scott wasn’t just a colleague, he was a friend.”
Agent Ragsdale leaves behind his wife and two children.
“ATF Special Agent Scott Ragsdale, Badge # 4250, although you are gone, you will never be forgotten,” the agency’s press release read. “Rest in peace friend.”
Agent Ragsdale will be laid to rest in the Law Enforcement Garden of Honor at the Dallas Restland Memorial Park on June 4, according to KXAS.
