Ashland, OR – Ashland Police Officer Malcus Williams unexpectedly died Friday night while on duty.

Ashland Police Department said that Officer Williams was on a call at around 7:25 p.m. when he suddenly suffered a major medical event.

The other officers on-scene were able to render medical aid while they called for expedited assistance from Ashland Fire and Rescue.

Paramedics transported the officer to Providence Hospital and hospital staff continued to attempt to save his life until he passed away at 9:00 p.m.

According to KDVR, Chief Tighe O’Meara said that nobody had a bad word to say about the fallen hero.

“He personifies the demeanor that we want in police officers,” Chief O’Meara said. “He’s calm, he’s patient, he’s respectful of everybody. Malcus was that rare police officer that is universally liked. You will not find a person in the city of Ashland or in Jackson County that has anything bad to say about Malcus and that’s including people that he’s arrested. He’s been a really important part of this community for a lifetime.”

Officer Williams worked for the Ashland Police Department since December 9, 1996.

The department says that Officer Williams is survived by his wife, Ona, and three daughters, Savannah, Georgia, and Brooklyn, as well as his sisters Cindy and Amy, who is also a member of the Ashland Police Department.
