A specific cause of death has not been released.

“Oliver Durden was an outstanding police officer who sought out the most challenging assignments,” the Allegheny County Police Department (ACPD) Facebook post read. “Every member of this agency is very fortunate to have had the privilege of serving beside him; his brother and sister officers knew he would never let them down.”

Det. Durden served with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police (PBP), and the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD), before he joined the ACPD on July 9, 2012.

“He also served proudly as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and the National Guard, further reflecting his lifetime commitment to service of his nation and his community,” the department said.

A Go Fund Me account has been created to assist Ellen with funeral and memorial expenses.

“The pain of his loss will linger, but we can take heart in knowing that men of his character and strength walk among us,” the ACPD wrote.
