Chicago, IL – A woman was killed and a man was seriously wounded in double shooting in front of a Chicago police station on the Far South Side on Sunday night.
The incident began at about 8:47 p.m. on Aug. 29 in the 1900-block of West Monterey Avenue in the Morgan Park neighborhood, WGN reported.
A 46-year-old woman and 42-year-old man were driving in a vehicle when they were approached by a grey Chrysler, according to police.
The occupants of the Chrysler began shooting at the pair, causing them to crash their vehicle onto police property, WGN reported.
Police said the incident didn’t end there.
The Chrysler followed the victims’ vehicle and after it crashed, they got out of their vehicle next to the Chicago Police Department’s 22nd District Station and opened fire again at the man and woman, WGN reported.
One of the suspects shot the 46-year-old woman in the head.
And one of the gunshots went through the window of the police station.
When officers heard the gunfire outside, they quickly responded, FOX News reported.
However, the suspects had already fled the scene in their Chrysler.
“Officers, hearing the shots being fired at the station, exited the station to render aid to the victims of the vehicle,” Chicago Police Deputy Chief Chris Papaioannou told reporters at a press briefing after the shootings.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment, WGN reported.
The female victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center shortly after her arrival there, according to police.
Chicago police said the male victim was in stable condition at Christ Hospital with wounds to his lower body, WGN reported.
Detectives are investigating the shooting, but no one has been taken into custody at this time.
Deputy Chief Papaioannou said detectives were checking area security cameras and asked anyone with information to contact Chicago police, FOX News reported.
