Federal Way, WA – A cowardly attack left a woman with broken bones in her face on Monday night, after a man grabbed her from behind and beat her as she was walking home from a grocery store, she said.
Amanda Edwards, 35, said she was leaving the store and preparing to walk home when the man pulled up next to her in the parking lot, KCPQ reported.
Edwards realized that the man was fondling himself as he asked her for directions, and she yelled at him to leave her alone.
“You have to have a pretty crazy mind to go around and think that it’s OK to do something like that,” Edwards said.
She watched as the man drove over to another woman in the parking lot.
Edwards said she yelled at the woman and other customers in the area, warning them to stay away from the man.
He then sped away in what Edwards described as a “4-door white sedan, like possibly a Ford Focus,” with extensive damage to the entire passenger side of the car, KCPQ reported.
Edwards said she believed the man was gone, so she started to walk home.
“The next thing I know I was waking up on the ground [before] running home,” she told KCPQ. “I didn’t realize I had been hit multiple times in my face.”
Edwards said a man attacked her from behind. She suspected her assailant was the same man she confronted at the grocery store, and that he followed her as she walked home.
“He was extremely aggressive and when he came up and he said ‘I got you’ and when he started laughing–it was one of the most evil laughs I’ve heard,” Edwards told KCPQ. “I mean, to me, he had a rapist mentality.”
“He put time into following me and getting out of his car and running up on me and attacking me and I feel like if he got away with it, he would probably feel like he can do it again,” said Edwards.
The attack left Edwards with four facial fractures and crack in the roof of her mouth, KCPQ reported. She will need surgical plates to reconstruct her cheeks.
Edwards said her attacker was a Pacific Islander man in his 20s or 30s, with a slender but “solid” build, and that he was wearing a beanie.
UPDATE: A 19-year-old suspect was arrested for the attack.
