SandyMaloneFayetteville, NC – A cable television technician told his employer that he was sexually assaulted by a client while he was servicing her home on April 20.
Fayetteville police said that the woman made “unwanted sexual advances” on her cable guy was arrested over the weekend, the Charlotte Observer reported.
The victim told police that 47-year-old Mildred Newsome had accosted him in her apartment while he was there to make repairs, the Fayetteville Observer reported.
The man was almost finished with his work when Newsome took his hand and put it on her breast, according to the warrant.
The warrant said Newsome forced the cable guy to engage in two sex acts, the warrant said.
Police said Newsome told the man that she would deny his account and tell authorities he had assaulted her if he reported the incident to law enforcement, the Fayetteville Observer reported.
“He stated ‘no’ and attempted to resist these actions, but she continued,” Fayetteville Police Sergeant Shawn Strepay told the Charlotte Observer.
Edmonton Sun reports that she performed oral sex on him.
Newsome “finally stopped,” and allowed the cable technician to leave, Sgt. Strepay said.
“We have emphasized that he did report it immediately after the incident. He went back to the Spectrum Center and called us,” the sergeant confirmed.
After a month of investigation, police arrested Newsome on Saturday and charged her with two counts of second-degree forced sex offense and one count of misdemeanor sexual battery, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
Records show that Newsome, who is employed by a nursing and rehabilitation center, was released from jail on $10,000 bond.
The cable guy’s sexual assault has raised a much larger debate on social media in the era of #MeToo, as countless people wondered whether a man could be victimized in that manner.
“A lot of people are of the mind that a man cannot be sexually assaulted or could have done something to stop it,” Sgt. Strepay said. “That’s not true.”
“Put yourself in the victim’s shoes. It’s a traumatic experience…If he happens to be on social media and comes across those comments, it will be more traumatic,” the sergeant said.
