Tom GantertWilkes-Barre Twp, PA – A woman was arrested after threatening customers, a store manager and police because she refused to wear a face mask inside a Dollar Tree.
In Pennsylvania, the Department of Heath ordered on April 15 that customers are required to wear face masks while inside a commercial business due to the coronavirus, according to The Times Leader.
On April 20 a Dollar Tree store manager told Atlandrith Owens, 20, that she couldn’t enter unless she wore a face mask.
The Times Leader reported that Owens refused to wear a mask and then started yelling into the store from the entrance, which alarmed customers and employees, according to police.
Police arrived at the Dollar Tree at about 4 p.m. and saw Owens at the entrance yelling.
There were two neon green signs posted on entrance doors that alerted customers that they had to wear face masks while inside the store, according to The Times Leader.
Owens walked away from the police officers and told them, “Ya’ll are lucky that you’re wearing a uniform. Take that off and see what happens,” according to The Times Leader.
The woman initially gave police an incorrect name. But Owens’ sister told police what Owens’ real name was. That caused Owens to threaten beat up her sister, according to police.
She was subsequently arrested.
Owens has a history of legal issues.
Police said she was wanted for failure to appear in court on aggravated assault offenses. According to court records, police charged Owens in August of 2019 with threatening her sister with a knife as well as assaulting a police officer during a fight at a residence.
On Tuesday, Owens was charged with several crimes including disorderly conduct and false identification to law enforcement, according to The Times Leader.
She was booked into jail with $1,000 bail.
