White House Blasts Texas Governor For Sending Buses Of Migrants To Vice President Kamala Harris’ Home On Christmas Eve

Washington, DC – Three busloads of migrants were dropped off in the nation’s capital on Christmas Eve, including at least one bus that arrived in Vice President Kamala Harris’ neighborhood.

Between 110 and 130 migrants were dropped off outside Vice President Harris’ home at the U.S. Naval Observatory on Dec. 24, FOX News reported.

Temperatures hovered at around 15 degrees Fahrenheit that night, according to USA Today.

The buses were sent to Washington, DC from Texas at the direction of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s administration, ABC News reported.

Abbott alerted President Biden in a letter on Dec. 20 that migrant housing facilities in Texas were already filled to capacity, resulting in migrants being turned away and left on the streets, even in freezing temperatures, FOX News reported.

“Your policies will leave many people in the bitter, dangerous cold as a polar vortex moves into Texas,” the governor wrote. “Texas has borne a lopsided burden caused by your open border policies.”

He further accused President Biden of neglecting his duties as leader of the U.S.

“This terrible crisis for border communities in Texas is a catastrophe of your own making,” Abbot’s letter read, according to FOX News. “The need to address this crisis is not the job of border states like Texas. Instead, the U.S. Constitution dictates that it is your job, Mr. President, to defend the borders of our country, regulate our nation’s immigration, and manage those who seek refuge here.”

The number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border in a single month hit an all-time high in November, when a staggering 233,740 people were apprehended for crossing into the U.S. illegally, The Guardian reported.

Abbott, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have all been busing migrants to Democratic-led cities throughout the U.S. for several months in an attempt to ease the burden on their border communities and to protest President Joe Biden’s refusal to address the surge of illegal border crossings.

“Texas’ busing strategy has successfully provided much-needed relief to our border communities overwhelmed by the historic influx of migrants caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies,” Abbott declared in a statement released last month, according To ABC News.

“Our supposed Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, has yet to even visit the border to see firsthand the impact of the open border policies she has helped implement, even going so far as to claim the border is ‘secure,’” he noted in September, according to FOX News. “Texas will continue sending migrants to sanctuary cities like Washington, D.C., until President Biden and Border Czar Harris step up and do their jobs to secure the border.”

All of the occupants aboard the three buses that arrived in Washington, DC on Dec. 24 were subsequently taken to a local church by the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network took, WJLA reported.

“This is a welcome effort that we’ve been doing since the first bus arrived,” said one of the group’s organizers, Amy Fischer. “D.C. just continues to show up as a welcoming city that is always ready and willing to open their arms to welcome people, whether it’s Christmas Eve, whether it’s 9 degrees outside or 90 degrees outside.”

Fischer blasted Abbott for sending the buses during unfavorable temperatures, despite the fact that Texas was also experiencing frigid winter weather at the time.

“It really does show the cruelty behind Gov. Abbott and his insistence on continuing to bus people here without care about people arriving late at night on Christmas Eve when the weather is so cold,” she said. “People are getting off the buses, they don’t have coats, they don’t have clothes for this kind of weather, and they’re freezing.”

White House Spokesperson Abdullah Hasan issued a statement on Sunday denouncing the arrival of the buses in Washington, DC, ABC News reported.

“This was a cruel, dangerous, and shameful stunt,” Hasan declared. “We are willing to work with anyone — Republican or Democrat alike — on real solutions, like the comprehensive immigration reform and border security measures President Biden sent to Congress on his first day in office, but these political games accomplish nothing and only put lives in danger.”

The following day, Abbott’s office pointed out that everyone who boarded the buses “willingly chose to go” and “signed a voluntary consent waiver available in multiple languages upon boarding that they agreed on the destination,” ABC News reported.

“The White House is full of a bunch of hypocrites, led by the Hypocrite-in-Chief,” Abbott’s spokesperson, Renae Eze said in a statement. “Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, President Biden and Border Czar Harris need to step up and do their jobs to secure the border—something they continue failing to do.”

Eze said the federal government has repeatedly ignored Texas’ pleas for help with the crippling surge of illegal immigrants.

“They were processed and released by the federal government, who are dumping them at historic levels in Texas border towns like El Paso, which recently declared a state of emergency because of the Biden-made crisis,” she said.
