West Virginia Deputy Shot In Face

A Mason County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot in the line of duty early Sunday morning.

Mason County, WV – A Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy was shot in the face while investigating a report of another shooting early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at a residence in the 1300-block of Whitten Ridge Road at approximately 4:15 a.m., after deputies received a report that an 81-year-old man had shot his female caretaker, WCHS reported.

When deputies entered the residence, one of them was shot in the face.

The deputy was rushed to Cabell Huntington Hospital before he was transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WCHS reported.

He was reportedly in stable condition early Sunday afternoon, WSAZ reported.

The condition of the woman who was reportedly shot is unknown, WCHS reported.

Police have not released any other information about the gunman.

The West Virginia State Police are handling the ongoing investigation into the incident.
