Bothell, WA – A Bothell police officer was murdered and a second officer was wounded after a gunman opened fire during a pursuit on Monday night.
The incident began at approximately 9:40 p.m. on July 13, when officers stopped a vehicle on State Route 522, Bothell Police Department (BPD) Captain Mike Johnson told KOMO.
According to police, the suspect vehicle may have been involved in an earlier hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian, but details regarding that potential link are still unclear.
The pedestrian remains hospitalized in serious condition, according to KIRO.
After the driver of the suspect vehicle stopped, he bailed out of the vehicle and took off on foot, KOMO reported.
The officers ran after him, at which point the suspect opened fire on them, police said.
Both officers were struck by gunfire.
One officer died at the scene.
