Brooklyn, NY – Police are searching for a man who slammed a 46-year-old woman into the sidewalk on Tuesday morning and then beat her almost to death (video below).
The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 25 near Division Avenue and Rodney Street in Williamsburg as the woman was walking to work, WVIT reported.
Police said the suspect sneaked up behind the woman and then picked her up and slammed her to the sidewalk.
The surveillance video released by police showed that the suspect pummeled the woman repeatedly, WVIT reported.
Police said that suspect also tried to remove his victim’s pants to sexually assault her as she lay helpless and dazed on the pavement.
The suspect, seen wearing a bright yellow hooded sweatshirt in the surveillance video, ran from the scene after he almost beat the woman to death, according to authorities.
He fled down Division Street toward Keap Street, WABC reported.
The badly-beaten woman was transported to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment of severe head and body trauma.
Once there, doctors had to put her in a medically-induced coma and listed her in “critical condition.”
Neighbors were shocked by the jarring video that showed the man grabbing and beating the 46-year-old woman, WVIT reported.
“I’m just surprised … there are a lot of old people and children, we usually don’t have a lot of crime,” Williamsburg resident Luz Aviles said.
Police described the woman’s attacker as a man with a light complexion and full beard who was wearing dark pants and red sneakers with the yellow hoodie, WABC reported.
Anyone with information about the attack has been asked to contact the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
