VIDEO: U.S. Attorney General Stops Motorcade To Thank Virginia Police Supporters

U.S. Attorney General William Barr had his motorcade turn around on Thursday so he could go back and thank a group of police supporters who were demonstrating on a sidewalk in Virginia (video below).

The special moment was shared on Twitter by Barr’s spokesman, Kerri Kupec, on Aug. 6.

“That time you’re driving in Virginia and the Attorney General spots a group of people in front of a police precinct showing their support for the police,” Kupec tweeted. “AG to FBI Detail: “Can we make a quick U-Turn? I want to jump out and thank those people.”

The post did not reveal where exactly the stop was made or which precinct the police supporters had staked out.

The brief video posted to Twitter showed the attorney general making his way down the sidewalk fist-bumping, elbow-bumping, and shaking hands with a group of pro-police demonstrators who were clearly thrilled to meet the nation’s top law enforcement official.

An elderly gentleman was seated with his wife slightly apart from the group and one of the demonstrators ran to get him so he could meet Barr, the video showed.

“Let me get him,” a man in a yellow shirt said as he raced through the group to assist the elderly man whom they said was a retired member of law enforcement later in the video.

The video showed that the police supporters held signs that said “Back the Blue,” “Defend the Police,” “Immigrants Love Law & Order,” and “Love the Blue – They Give Their Lives For You.”

Many of them waved American flags and Thin Blue Line flags in the video.

“This is awesome,” one man told Barr.

“Keep up the good work,” another said in the video.

Several supporters offered Barr support for his recent testimony before Congress, during which Democratic lawmakers asked him countless questions but refused to let him answer them.

“You did wonderful on your testimony, I thought,” an older woman encouraged Barr. “It was spectacular, I thought.”

“We love you,” another woman told him.

Several lamented the attorney general’s terrible treatment at the hands of legislators when he testified.

Barr even stopped to take selfies with some of the pro-police demonstrators.

The attorney general may have gotten the idea to stop and thank police supporters from his boss, President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly surprised officers and deputies from countless law enforcement agencies when he stopped to acknowledge them during his Presidential campaign and since he took office.

President Trump has made a habit of thanking the officers present when he departs from an airport, often jogging over to them to shake hands before boarding Air Force One.
