OfficerBlueCincinnati, OH – A man was sentenced on Thursday for the brutal unprovoked attack on a librarian which occurred in May.

The incident happened May 15 as the victim, a librarian, was walking near the library shortly after midnight.
The group of three men, John Watts, 20, Johntae Dearmond, 21, and an unidentified suspect asked the librarian for a cigarette, then tackled him to the sidewalk and started beating him, according to Cincinnati Enquirer.
The librarian was hit over 50 times and kicked in the face. The victim was left with internal brain bleeding.
Dearmond then took the victim’s cell phone and Watts casually stopped to pick up his lip balm that he had dropped. They then left their victim to die.
Judge Jody Luebbers had to stop the video and was unable to watch the whole thing, describing it as “Senseless. Savage. And Horrific.”
“Why did this happen?,” Judge Luebbers asked Watts after he pleaded guilty.
“I just attacked him,” Watts said. “I don’t know how to explain it.”
Watts’ attorney blamed alcohol and peer pressure for the attack.
Dearmond was sentenced in September to 9 years in prison for aggravated robbery and blamed the attack on “intoxication,” according to the Enquirer.
After hearing from Watts on Thursday, Judge Luebbers sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
