San Bernardino, CA – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting captured on cell phone video that happened in front of a liquor store in San Bernardino late on Thursday night (video below).
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 in front of the King Tut liquor store located at Baseline Street and Waterman Avenue, KTTV reported.
Sources told the television station that San Bernardino police had responded to a call about a man armed with a gun who was “jumping on cars” and behaving erratically outside the store.
A witness filmed cell phone video of part of the incident but the footage did not capture what led up to the altercation between the police officer and the suspect.
The video began after the officer was already struggling with the suspect and showed him taking the large man to the ground between a parked car and the sidewalk.
In the video, the suspect clearly reached into his pocket and pulled out something black that looked like a gun as the officer climbed on top of the larger man to try and control him.
The video showed that after the suspect retrieved the item from his pocket, he pushed himself up onto his knees and eventually stood up with the officer still holding onto his back, and then began to turn and face him.
That was when the officer drew his weapon and fired four shots at the man.
In the video, the suspect was clearly holding something black in his right hand after he stood up.
KTTV has reported that sources confirmed the suspect had a gun.

The suspect died from his wounds at a local hospital, KTTV confirmed on Friday morning.
Police have not yet released any information about the incident or the investigation, nor have they released the name of the officer of the suspect.
It wasn’t known whether the officer was injured during the struggle, KTTV reported.
People immediately began gathering in the area near where the officer-involved shooting occurred and started screaming at the officers and inciting others to protest.
“Dude was coming out and he started fighting that dude and the dude tried to get up and all we heard was ‘bam bam bam bam.’ He shot the man. The police shot that man,” a witness told KTTV.
Others were upset that medics didn’t respond to the volatile scene quickly enough, KABC reported.
“That young man was shot for nothing,” Gregory James Robinson said. “The paramedics are still not here — it’s been past 15, 20 minutes. Something needs to be done about San Bernardino PD doing this to people.”
Some on social media expressed concern that the incident would spark riots.
