VIDEO: Police Take Out Armed Suspect Holding Abducted Baby

Shaun Lee Fuhr allegedly beat his girlfriend for hours and fired a gun at her twice before taking off with their child.

Seattle, WA – An armed suspect who severely beat a woman and ran off with the victim’s one-year-old child was fatally shot by police as he was still holding the baby (video below).

The incident began at approximately 2:15 p.m. on April 29, when a woman called 911 to report that her child’s father, 24-year-old Shaun Lee Fuhr, had fired a gun at her and abducted their one-year-old daughter, KOMO reported.

In her 911 call, the frantic mother explained that she had a no-contact order against Fuhr. She said that he had assaulted her prior to fleeing with her daughter.

“You gotta help me,” she begged. “I don’t know where he went – he has my baby!”

The victim also warned police that Fuhr was armed with a gun, and that he fired it at her during the incident.

“I want my daughter. Please. She’s only one,” the woman begged. “Please – I’m scared for her.”

Police responded to the area of the Rainier Playfield on South Alaska Street and located the victim, who had suffered a prolonged beating, KOMO reported.

Investigators later discovered that Fuhr had abducted the victim and her child from a residence in Des Moines and took them to a hotel in South Seattle, where he proceeded to beat the woman with an iron, police said.

He also allegedly fired a gun at her while they were in the vehicle, KOMO reported.

Fuhr then forced the woman and baby back into the vehicle and drove them to the playfield area, where he fired another bullet at her, according to police.

The victim managed to escape and called police.

The woman was rushed to a local hospital while officers searched for Fuhr and the baby, KOMO reported.

Approximately 35 minutes after receiving the initial 911 call, officers received a report that a man was trying to break into a nearby building that was under construction.

When they arrived at the scene, they found Fuhr, who was still holding the little girl.

Bodycam footage showed the officers as they ordered the armed suspect to stop, but he ignored them and took off running on foot.

They ultimately cornered him in a fenced-in area, at which point one of the officers fired his rifle, hitting the suspect.

“The officers engaged him,” Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best confirmed, according to KOMO. “They were very concerned about the welfare of the baby.”

The officers then immediately swooped in and rescued the child, who was uninjured.

Fuhr ultimately died from his wounds, according to KOMO.

Chief Best said that the officer who shot Fuhr is a 15-year veteran of the department, KING reported.

Criminal defense attorney Stryder Wegener said he happened to be riding his bike in the area right when the shooting occurred, according to KING.

“I heard a gunshot, one gun shot and then immediately after that there was storm of police officers going in then a baby was brought out,” Wegener explained. “Police officers were holding her, you know as gently as possible and then another officer took her and patting her on the butt, like you would as a dad.”

Wegener said that he was stunned by how compassionate and attentive the officers were to the little girl.

“Generally, my job would be to defend the guy shot just got shot – and it still might be – but watching how they went into action today and see it first-person was really, really impactful,” he told KING. “I’m just thankful that they’re really good at what they do.”

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the King County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit, the Inspector General, and the Office of Professional accountability, KING reported.
