AndrewBlakeMiami Beach, FL – Police are investigating after video showed a woman in thong underwear ride a horse into a crowded nightclub and get bucked off. (Video below)
The night club Mokai Lounge was shut down after the March 7 incident for creating what city officials said was a threat to public health, according to the New York Times.
A criminal investigation was also started into whether an act of animal cruelty was committed.
In the video, the horse bucks off the woman as some in the crowd scream in panic but then it turns to cheers as the horse regained composure and slowly trotted around. The video has been spread on social media.
“This morning we heard about and saw an extremely troubling video of what can only be described as insane stupidity,” Mayor Dan Gelber said at a March 9 press conference. “It was dangerous to this animal, it was dangerous to the public, it was inhumane. It wasn’t silly or sophomoric. It was outrageous.”
According to the New York Times, Gelber said his first thought after watching the video was, “What kind of idiot would do something like this?”
Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy L. Morales issued the order revoking the nightclub’s business license.
Morales said, “I was disgusted and offended that any legitimate businessperson would think this was an appropriate action to take. This activity was not permitted, and as soon as we became aware, I immediately instructed staff to act swiftly in remedying this situation.”
Miami Beach spokeswoman Melissa Berthier said that the police located the horse and confirmed that it was uninjured.
