New York, NY – New York Police Department (NYPD) detectives are looking for two gunmen who shot three men in the Claremont neighborhood in the Bronx on Sunday (video below).
The incident occurred on July 5 at 306 East 171 Street when police responded to a call about a shooting, WABC reported.
Two men were killed and a third was wounded in what police believe was a targeted attack on the victims.
The shootings were captured on the apartment building’s security cameras and the video was posted to social media by the police department.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison posted the video to Twitter on Monday and asked anyone with information about the murders to come forward.
The video began with three men walking in an apartment hallway toward a stairwell.
Suddenly, the first man to reach the top of the stairs turned and lunged back in the direction from which he’d come.
His friends also turned and tried to flee, and one of them actually knocked over another man in his quest to reach the door of an apartment, the video showed.
It was unclear whether they were just seeking safety or if any of the men resided in the apartment, but the video showed the men madly scrambling on top of each other to get inside the apartment as a man a man in a white shirt appeared at the top of the stairs holding a gun in his hand.
There was a flash from the end of his weapon as the video showed he fired in the direction of the three men wrestling to get into the apartment.
Meanwhile, a second armed suspect appeared from the hallway beyond the staircase.
As the first shooter fled down the staircase, the second gunman opened fire as he walked toward the three men in the doorway, the video showed.
He fired at least three times – once at close range – before turning to flee down the staircase with the other shooter.
Officers responded to 911 calls about gunshots and found a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old man dead in the hallway, WUSA reported.
The third victim – a 22-year-old man – suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Chief Harrison said the third man remained hospitalized.
No arrests have been made in the incident and the investigation is ongoing, WABC reported.
NYPD sources told The Police Tribune that one of the men who was fatally shot had just been released from prison prior to the shooting.
Police have asked that anyone with information related to the shootings call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or DM @NYPDTips.
There were 23 shooting incidents with 41 people shot between midnight and 9 a.m. on July 5, WUSA reported.
