VIDEO: NYPD Officers Attacked By Mob Of Teens While Helping Crash Victim

Six New York police officers were injured during an altercation with a large group of teens on Thursday afternoon.

Manhattan, NY – Six New York police officers were injured when a mob of unruly teens attacked them as they tried to help a pedestrian who was hit by a taxi on Thursday (videos below).

The altercation occurred in the area of West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m., after New York Police Department (NYPD) 18th Precinct officers received a report of a large, disorderly gathering, NYPD Detective Denis Moroney Blue Lives Matter on Friday.

Officers arrived to find a “large group consisting of mostly school aged teens” disrupting traffic and pedestrians, Det. Moroney said.

According to a witness’ Facebook post, a yellow cab had collided with one of the teens prior to the officers’ arrival.

The teens then confronted a cab driver who they believed was responsible for injuring the 18-year-old man, and began jumping on his vehicle, WINS reported.

The driver said the mob made a mistake, and he denied having been the driver who collided with the man.

Officers arrived at the scene and began tending to the victim, who was lying in the middle of the street, cell phone footage showed.

The officers attempted to keep the unruly crowd away from an ambulance, but bystanders kept circling in behind them.

“When responding officers attempted to disperse the group, some individuals refused lawful orders to leave the immediate area and began to punch and assault uniformed officers assigned to the [Manhattan] Precinct and School Safety Officers,” Det. Moroney told Blue Lives Matter.

“OC spray was discharged in an attempt to gain control of the situation,” she said.

Tiffandra Ferguson, who posted cell phone footage of the scene to Facebook, said that the altercation took place outside “a school for kids with special needs,” according to her post.

“The police had no idea how to deal with kids with special needs,” Ferguson ranted. “How do you choke a minor for not wanting to go to the hospital and punching and body slamming the other students.”

Three males, ages 15, 15, and 17, were arrested in connection with the brawl, Det. Moroney said.

A 17-year-old female was also arrested.

The suspects were each charged with assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest, and all but one of the 15-year-old males were also charged with disorderly conduct, according to Det. Moroney.

The investigation into the situation is ongoing.
