VIDEO: NYPD Officer Slashed In Face While Trying To Apprehend Knife-Wielding Attacker

Bronx, NY – Bodycam footage captured the moment when a New York police officer was slashed in the face while trying to apprehend a knife-wielding attacker late last week (video below).

The incident began after the New York Police Department (NYPD) received a 911 call at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 6 regarding a man with a knife, WPIX reported.

The officers located the “combative and belligerent” suspect near Grand Avenue and West Fordham Road, police said.

Bodycam footage showed the armed suspect running down the street as an officer holding a Taser took off after him.

The suspect stopped abruptly a moment later and the officer appeared to close in on him, but then backed away as the suspect waved a knife around wildly, the video showed.

Motorists and pedestrians passed by as the suspect jumped in the air and swiped the blade in large circles around himself.

One of the officers was ultimately able to get close enough to the suspect to deploy his Taser.

The suspect abruptly fell face-first onto the pavement after the jolt and was quickly taken into custody by additional officers, the video showed.

The NYPD later confirmed that the officer who initially attempted to apprehend the knife-wielding suspect was slashed in the face during the takedown.

“Earlier today, @nypd52pct officers used tremendous restraint when responding to a man armed with a knife,” the department tweeted. “The man became combative & slashed our officer on the nose.”

The 26-year-old officer was transported to the hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition.

The NYPD confirmed the attacker was arrested, but his name was not immediately released.

The “emotionally disturbed” suspect was transported to BronxCare Health System for treatment, the New York Post reported.

Investigators said they recovered a knife at the scene.

No charges were immediately filed.
