VIDEO: Man With Underwear On Head Tries Busting Into Pot Shop, Gets Fur Missiled

Scott Hedge, 55, was arrested after he was caught breaking into a marijuana business while wearing underwear as a mask.

Spokane County, WA – A burglar wearing underwear on his head and socks on his hands tried to break into a Spokane County marijuana shop on Sunday morning.

The attempted break-in occurred at about 5:20 a.m. on Aug. 11 at the Apex Cannabis store in Otis Orchards, the Spokesman-Review reported.

Apex Cannabis’ security cameras captured video of the attempted burglary as it unfolded.

The video showed a man – later identified as 55-year-old Scott Hedge – wearing a pair of black Hanes boxer briefs on his head like a mask and a pair of sock on his hands as he tried to pry open the door of the marijuana store.

Stacey Peterson, co-founder of Apex Cannabis, told the Spokesman-Review that the would-be burglar used a small crowbar to pry loose a larger security bar on the building.

Then he used the bigger metal bar to try to open the door.

“He actually used our own security bar against us,” Peterson said.

The suspect’s attempts to open the door set off the security alarm on the business and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office was alerted, the Spokesman-Review reported.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory said Spokane County deputies and Liberty Lake police officers responded to the scene of the attempted commercial burglary.

The would-be burglar was so engrossed in his break-in attempt that he failed to notice two police SUVs pulling into the parking lot until one of them stopped right behind where he was standing, the video showed.

At that point, the suspect calmly set down the metal bar, walked over to his own vehicle and shut the back door, before proceeding around the front as if to return to the driver’s seat.

Two officers jumped out of their vehicles with weapons drawn and ordered Hedge to the ground, but he ignored them and jumped back behind the wheel of his vehicle, the video showed.

That’s when the K-9 officer hit the automatic door opener on his SUV and released his fur missile.

Initially, the dog went after the other police officer but then quickly realized his handler was elsewhere and refocused himself on the suspect, the video showed.

The video showed the dog, the K-9 handler, and the other officer were joined by two more officers as they fought with Hedge.

One of the officers was thrown on his backside at one point during the confrontation with the suspect, the video showed.

But seconds later, with the help of the police dog, the officers were able to gain control of the underwear-masked man and take him into custody.

The owners of Apex Cannabis shared the video of Hedge’s arrest on their Facebook page.

“Here is a picture of this guy’s face the moment he realized he wasn’t alone anymore,” the business commented beneath their post. “If you look closely, you can even see what brand of underwear he is wearing on his face. That color really makes his eyes pop, don’t you think?”

Peterson expressed “tremendous” thanks to the police who showed up so quickly at her place of business, the Spokesman-Review reported.

“They showed up en masse and protected us like they would any other legitimate business – because we are,” she said.

Hedge was charged with malicious mischief, resisting arrest, and second-degree burglary and booked into the Spokane County Jail, the Spokesman-Review reported.

Hedge remained in custody as of Wednesday, held in lieu of a $1,000 bond.
