Pullman, WA – A Washington State University student was caught on camera stealing presents at the Pullman police station (video below).
The incident occurred as the 20-year-old man was being released from jail after having been arrested for underage drinking, according to KPTV.
Surveillance cameras in the lobby of the Pullman Police Department captured the entire bizarre scene
The video began with the young man standing at the window where he had collected his belongings prior to being released from jail, KPTV reported.
The man began to walk toward the exit of the building, but stopped to pick up a piece of paper on the ground that may or may not have belonged to him, the video showed.
Then he proceeded over to the Christmas tree that was set up next to the front doors of the police station.
The video showed the young man bent over and picked up several of the wrapped Christmas gifts that were staged under the tree.
Then he stood up and walked out the doors as if the gifts belong to him.
Once outside, he discovered that the packages he had stolen were not actual gifts, KPTV reported.
One of the packages was empty, one of the gifts was a tissue box, and the final box contained women’s feminine hygiene products.
The video showed the frustrated college student looked at his stolen booty and then flung the boxes to the sidewalk in disgust.
A moment later, the man who was driving the car that arrived to pick the young man up from jail ran up to the sidewalk and picked up the discarded faux packages.
The video showed he stacked them neatly and placed them on the ground beside the front doors of the police station.
Then he appeared to look up into the lens of the security cameras and give a wave to indicate the stolen items had been returned, the video showed.
The Pullman police told KOMO they do not intend to pursue charges against the package pirate.
