VIDEO: Footage Shows Gunman Opening Fire At SmileDirectClub Warehouse

Antioch, TN – Police released surveillance footage and bodycam video of the officer-involved shooting on Tuesday of the gunman who had just opened fire on co-workers at the SmileDirectClub warehouse (video below).

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) also released audio recordings of the 911 calls it received when the chaos erupted, WHNT reported.

The incident began just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 3 when 22-year-old Antonio King showed up at the SmileDirectClub factory in Antioch with a gun.

Callers told 911 operators that an “active shooter” was shooting people at the SmileDirectClub warehouse.

“He’s walking beside the building, still shooting,” one of the callers said in the recording.

Police said that King shot two security guards and a warehouse manager before he fled down the street, NBC News reported.

Bodycam video showed officers confronted King – who was still holding a handgun – at an intersection nearby.

The video showed officers gave the gunman multiple commands to drop his weapon and he ignored them.

MNPD said King pointed his gun at police and was shot by at least two officers, WHNT reported.

Officers performed First Aid on the gunman until the ambulance arrived.

King was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, WHNT reported.

Security guards Johnny Hardin and Carlton Watson were both shot by King, NBC News reported.

MNPD said the 46-year-old Hardin was in critical condition and the 66-year-old Watson was stable.

Police said that Thomas Abbot, the 54-year-old manager shot by King, was treated at the hospital for his wounds and later released, WHNT reported.

MNPD said King had worked for SmileDirectClub from late 2019 to early 2020, and then rejoined its workforce again in June of this year, WHNT reported.

Authorities have said they do not have a motive for the shooting, NBC News reported.

SmileDirectClub released a statement that credited its security force for having handled the incident well.

“SmileDirectClub is saddened at the incident that took place at its manufacturing facilities this morning,” the company said. “The incident was contained quickly by security personnel on site. The safety of our team members is a top priority for our company and we maintain strict security protocols.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is heading up the investigation into the officer-involved shooting alongside MNPD’s investigation of the workplace shooting, WHNT reported.
