Orlando, FL – Officials have released bodycam video of the officer-involved shooting of an armed man at the scene of his brother’s shooting (video below).
The incident occurred on Aug. 6 at the Heritage Hotel located in the 7900-block of South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, WESH reported.
Authorities said brothers Dylan Jimenez and Bryan Richardson were arguing with a third man outside the hotel.
Then the argument escalated into a shootout, WESH reported.
Jimenez was shot, but he returned fire and shot the man the brothers had been arguing with before he collapsed to the pavement.
Bodycam video showed Orange County sheriff’s deputies arriving on the scene of the shootings where Jimenez was laying on the pavement with a shirtless man who was attempting to perform First Aid.
The shirtless man told deputies that he was a paramedic.
“We’re going to put a chest seal, okay? So bear with me,” a deputy told him.
Jimenez’s brother, Richardson, approached the scene wearing a purple shirt and holding a gun in his right hand, the video showed.
“Put him down on his back and open his airway, okay,” the deputy instructed the man helping Jimenez without noticing the armed man standing beside them.
Bodycam showed that although the deputies did not initially notice that Richardson was armed, other witnesses pointed it out to them.
“Hey!” a bystander yelled at the deputies. “He has a gun!”
“He has a gun!” another man yelled from off-camera. “In his hand, pointing it at people.”
Bodycam video showed a gloved deputy who had been on the ground assisting Jimenez jumped to his feet and drew his weapon.
“Drop the gun!” he ordered Richardson as another deputy tried to grab the weapon from his hand.
Video showed the Richardson ignored the deputy’s commands and pulled away from the female deputy who was trying to disarm him.
So the deputy opened fire on him, shooting eight rounds.
Richardson, Jimenez, and the third man were all transported to nearby hospitals, WESH reported.
The brothers died but the third man, who had been shot by Jimenez, survived his wounds, according to police.
His identity has not yet been released, WESH reported.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating the deputy-involved shooting and the deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is conducted, as is protocol.
